young Horizons
About Us
Studies show only a minority of students go on to third level in disadvantaged areas, for example only 22% in Coolock, 39% in Ballyfermot, and 43% in Finglas compared to 94% in Terenure and 90% in Dundrum. Based on a fundamental belief that all children deserve the opportunity to reach their full potential, young Horizons is a youth charity that aims to connect children from disadvantaged areas with positive role models to inspire them to dream bigger, reach further when it comes to realising their full potential.

The schools yH are working with are DEIS Band 1 schools with historically high attrition rates between junior and senior cycle. Over the past few years this has improved but is still a big issue. Through mentoring and site visits, yH aims to create a positive link between schoolwork and potential employment opportunities. yH connects schools with companies and individuals who give a tour of their business and share their own career journeys to empower young people with the passion and motivation to stay at school and pursue a career afterwards.

All children deserve equality of opportunity and support to reach their full potential. Now in its fifth year, yH has already introduced over 1,000 kids from Ballymun and Dublin's inner city to a range of career paths they never knew were so within reach.
yH consists of a Board of 3 directors, and a Management Committee of 7 volunteers. All board and committee members work for yH on a voluntary basis. Meet the team
