Directors

Steve Kelly, Chairman

Steve is a manager and captain with Aer Lingus and has a background in engineering and is also a graduate of UCD Quinn School of Business. Steve has experience managing teams and dynamic issues around strategy, employment & business law, Health and Safety. He has volunteered with the Ballymun Aisling Project in the past and saw firsthand the struggles that small charities face on a day-to-day basis. Through his position in Aer Lingus and other connections he has been able to test the practicalities around site visits that interest the participants without overly taxing the organisation’s resources. Steve has found like-minded individuals with a wide spectrum of skills to develop the vision around broadening young people’s horizons to help them achieve and reach further.

Ronan Mac Donald, Director

Having initially trained as a sound engineer Ronan moved into theatre lighting design eventually working as a television lighting director in RTE. Since graduating from the UCD Quinn School of Business in 2012 Ronan now works as a Production Planning Manager in RTE. In this role he assumes production planning responsibility for some of the nations best-loved television shows.

Sarah is the ​Employee Engagement, Diversity & Communications Lead at ESB.

Niall Timlin, Company Secretary

​Niall Timlin has been Company Secretary of young Horizons since 2015. Niall has worked in Aer Lingus in various roles since he graduated, and is currently Partner and Industry Affairs Manager.

Kevin Foy, Founding Member

​Founding Member. Kevin is a member of the Airport Police and Fire Service at Dublin Airport. His current role is a Sergeant with the Airport Police. He has worked with the St Vincent de Paul for four years and was an events manager with the Special Olympics when the games were held in Ireland in 2003. Kevin has already enabled excursions to the Fire Station and is committed to developing the yH project further through fund raising and Security oversight.

Shane O'Brien, Committee Member

Shane is a Cork native who graduated from the University of Limerick in 2006 and his career has seen him spend a number of years in  Luxembourg where he worked in Hedge Fund accounting with BNY Mellon having also worked with the company in Ireland. Shane co-founded and worked on his own startup while also completing the UCC Ignite business graduate innovation programme. In his current role as Operations  Manager for Fire Financial Services (fire.com),  Shane is involved in the world of FinTech. 

John Tanner, CFO

​John joined young Horizons in May 2017 to take over the financial aspects. Having graduated from University College Cork with a degree in Finance, John joined Aer Lingus on their Finance Graduate Programme in 2011. Since then, John has held multiple roles within the airline, most recently as Finance Business Controller for Flight Operations, Inflight Services and Lounges.

Paul Barry, Committee Member

​Paul Barry currently manages the Networks Team of UCD IT Services, before that he has worked in various different roles in both the public and private sector in the IT industry and has twenty years experience in this sector. He is a Computer Science graduate from Dundalk Institute of Technology and a Business graduate from the UCD School of Business. Paul is a firm believer in the benefits of education for all ages and the positive impact education has on society both economic and social. He is a committed member of the yH team and sees this organisation as a great way to show young people the benefits of education through meeting with people in the work place.

Mary Geoghegan, Committee Member

Mary Geoghegan just completed her degree in Child Psychology.

Aidan Power, Committee Member

​Aidan works in In-Flight Catering, previously as Director of Operations for Aer Lingus and now for dnata, within the Emirates Group for whom he is setting up a new full service facility in Dublin. He has been involved in yH from the early days and hosted one of the first yH visits in the EI Flight Kitchen at Dublin Airport. Aidan has close links to a number of food / catering related businesses and colleges in Ireland and helps to support the careers days and site visits through these connections.
